The Principal's Corner
Dear Mason-Clark Middle School Families and Community,
I am delighted to welcome you to another exciting school year at Mason-Clark Middle School. As we embark on this journey together, I am thrilled to share our school's vision statement, which serves as the guiding beacon for our collective efforts:
"Students at Mason-Clark Middle School achieve academic excellence, meet grade-level standards, and enter high school on the path to college and career readiness."
At the heart of our educational mission is a commitment to the success and well-being of every student. Our vision statement reflects our dedication to providing an environment where academic excellence is not only encouraged but also achieved. We are devoted to ensuring that our students not only meet grade-level standards but surpass them, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed for a successful transition to high school.
Central to our vision is the preparation of students for the journey ahead, setting them on the path to college and career readiness. We believe in nurturing the whole student—academically, socially, and emotionally—to empower them to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie beyond middle school. Our goal is to instill in each student a sense of confidence and capability that will serve them well in high school and beyond.
As we work collaboratively to achieve these aspirations, we recognize the importance of the partnership between home and school. Your involvement and support are invaluable in creating a positive and enriching educational experience for our students.
I invite you to join us on this exciting journey as we strive for academic excellence, college and career readiness, and the overall success of every student at Mason-Clark Middle School. Together, we will continue to build a community that fosters a love for learning and prepares our students for a bright and promising future.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and development of your children.
Sincerely,
Renaldo Jackson, Principal

I am incredibly grateful and excited to be a part of the Mason Clark family. I look forward to working in partnership with Mr. Renaldo Jackson, administration and staff. I vow to continue the work of advocating for and providing all students and families with an excellent educational experience. I am keenly aware that I am joining a strong school culture synonymous with excellence, dedication, resilience, and collaboration. My goal is to enhance these characteristics through collective knowledge, modeling, and capitalizing on the creativity of our students, staff, and families.
I spent the first decade of my professional career as a management executive in the financial and healthcare sectors. Prior to becoming an administrator, I served primarily as an English Language Arts teacher for nearly two decades. As my career unfolded, I developed a love for sharing my knowledge with adult learners as a trainer in various professional development platforms as well as being a local teacher’s union representative.
I will work diligently with Mr. Jackson, our faculty, staff, and external stakeholders in establishing collaborative relationships, which is key to helping ALL STUDENTS achieve their highest potential. My role as assistant principal affords me the opportunity to work with teachers and staff on a daily basis while also remaining heavily involved in students’ growth and learning.
I am committed to continuous professional growth and ensuring educational equity for all students. My educational philosophy is that everyone can learn and everyone has the right to. Educating our youth is to empower them. A quality education grows from a positive school environment with a nurturing and collaborative culture grounded in common goals and relational trust.
I have been so fortunate to call the City of Champions my home town and strive daily to make a positive contribution to education while ensuring that our students are equipped with the skills to compete in the global society.
Professionally Yours,
Fernando Stevenson
Grade 7/8 Principal
I extend a warm welcome to all of you as we embark on another exciting academic year at Mason-Clark Middle School. As we reflect on our history and the values that define our school, it is with great pride that we honor the legacy of two exceptional community members, Dr. William Mason and the late Douglas W. Clark.
Mason-Clark Middle School opened its doors in 2007, and since then, we have been dedicated to providing a nurturing and enriching learning environment for our students. Our school is not just a building; it is a community that thrives on the principles of academic excellence, respect, and continuous growth.
Our school is named in honor of two outstanding individuals who have left an indelible mark on the East St. Louis community. Douglas W. Clark, a remarkable Math educator with over 30 years of dedication to education, continues to inspire us through the annual Math-A-Thon that bears his name. This event stands as a testament to his commitment to the field of mathematics and the educational growth of our students.
Dr. William Mason, a former mayor of the city of East St. Louis and Superintendent of School District 189, was a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in shaping the educational landscape of our community. His dedication to the betterment of our schools and the future of our students is a legacy we are honored to uphold.
As we commence this academic year, let us draw inspiration from the legacies of Dr. William Mason and Douglas W. Clark.
